I received an email suggesting items for submissions to the draft Annual Plan 07/08, it read:

‘Hi Peter.

I was talking with Kevin yesterday about submitting to the DAP. We thought that you might be able to circulate a few burning issues that you consider need addressing. Just the points; we don't expect you to do the work for us. We thought it may be helpful to many among your email list, giving them starting points to work on. Thanks if you can. Jude’

Thanks Jude, I’ve sent this to all Wheeler’s Corner readers…

The main issues for me and I believe most citizens are:

The loss of democratic process.
The ignoring of the consultation process.
The lack of a transparent policy regarding community development specifically housing and funding.
The rating systems’ failure to protect those on lower incomes.
The selling off of public owned green space.
The lack of a transparent ‘green for green policy’
The need to introduce a reduction of speeds around schools etc.
The state of our water supplies.
The Lake Development policy [wrong place]
The closure of Milson Line and Airport developments plans and charges.
The unbalanced levels of salaries for senior management.[$300.000 for CEO?]
Here are a few hints that may help if you decide to make a submission:

The submission form issued by council actually reduces the citizens’ ability to make submissions. It does this simply by using a format that restricts rather than enhances the opportunities to express ones view. If you use the form don’t answer the questions relating to funding, it is simply not possible to answer these with out having some real information to do so. It also detracts from your suggestions because it asks you how to fund them. Make your submission on plain paper or by email. Mail address is: Annual Pan Submissions, PNCC Freepost 380, Private Bag 11034 PALMERSTON NORTH. Or email submission@pncc.govt.nz

Ask to speak to your submission, if possible try to team up with others to present your submission, this allows for you to support for each.

Your submission need only contain: your name, address, phone number, email address if you have one, and the day or date and time you would like to speak to your submission pick a time from the dates below.

Monday 7th May 9-11am

Tues 8th May 9-11am 12-2pm 4.30-6.30pm and 7.30-9.30pm.

Weds 9th and Thursday 10th the same as Tues…

Ask that your submission be confirmed

SUBMISSION CLOSING DATE IS 4PM on FRIDAY the 20th of APRIL 07.or next FRIDAY.
