Hone

Kia puta ake a Hone i te pouwhakaata ka oioi te tangataga e matakitaki ana i tona turu, ka noho ake ranei inahoki kei te rerere te ihi me to wana mo Hone i a ia e korero ana. Ki tua o tena ko ta Hone mahi i te ao porotete. Mai rano, mai rano kua whai take a Hone, kua whakapae ia ki tena kawanatanga, tena kamupene nui ranei. Dr Peter Cleave said on Radio Watea yesterday; The question that it is appropriate to pursue right now is why is Hone Harawira standing out amongst Maori politicians? The first thought is to do with the quality of excitement that comes whenever Hone is on the television or the radio. People move on their seats and sit up when he speaks as they are excited. Beyond this there is Hone’s protest activity. For many years Hone has taken up causes and challenged government or big companies. And then there is the history and background of political action in the North going back to Matiu Rata, Hone Tuwhare and all the way back to Hone Heke and Hong Hika. And then there is Hone’s mother Titewhai. Ngapuhi is the biggest tribe in the country and a lot of them support Hone. He gets the support of his whanau, his hapu and his iwi as well. And then there is the support of his wife Hilda as well. It is through all of these reasons that Hone Harawira is succeeding in the world of politics.’
